Here we are on a glorious day in Forster at the Forster Golf Club. With me is our professional Golf Pro that looks after this amazing facility! Craig Stickling is his name. So, Craig, we’ve got a few questions for you.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN FORSTER?
CRAIG: “I have been here for just about ten months now and absolutely loving it. Beach life is great, members are good, and the Golf courses are amazing”.
WHY MAKE THE MOVE TO FORSTER?
CRAIG: “Lovely beaches, good weather, not a lot of cold weather andit’s just an overall good spot. It’s not as busy as the city, but you still get all the amenities that you want out of city life. You’ve got a shopping mall, great beaches, you have got great food, great people, great golf courses, great fishing, we just have everything out here”.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FORSTER GOLF CLUB AND THE TUNCURRY GOLF CLUB?
CRAIG: “The best thing for our members is that you get the best of both worlds. The Forster course is a par 66, which means it’s a slightly shorter course and a bit easier.
Our Tuncurry course is a championship golf course, it’s a bit longer, and it’s a par 72. The Tuncurry course also has a different grass type, so it plays differently. For a member, you can have the best of both worlds, wherever you want to play and that’s the best thing about our club and our town, we have two great golf courses that are totally different”.
IS YOUR GOLF CLUB BEGINNER FRIENDLY?
CRAIG: “Most golf clubs will have a beginner program for juniors, ladies and men. Here at Forster, we’ve got a juniors clinic program and a ladies’ program. So, if you are brand new to golf, you would come to our Ladies’ Clinics to learn a bit about the basics of golf, the edict on the golf course, how to hold the club and the main rules.
We also have a ladies’ mentoring program available to teach you about scoring and what happens on the golf course. So, there are a few steps to learn the skills of golf, we’re not going to throw you in the deep end”.
DO YOU HAVE GOLF CARTS AVAILABLE ON SIGHT?
CRAIG: “There are carts available, but we like to encourage walking – promote a healthy lifestyle. For some people the carts are crucial, allowing those who struggle physically to still play golf. Another reason why golf is the best game, you can play from when you are five years old up until you’re a hundred and five. If you still have issues with your body and you can’t walk, you can get in a cart, you can drive around, and you can still play the game. Because there are handicaps involved, you can also play against me with the handicap, and we can still compete”.
“Golf you play golf, but it’s almost secondary Just the, the friendships, and the networking you get out of it. It’s just awesome”.
That’s fantastic. Well, thank you, Craig. Thanks for your time.
