This June long weekend the Twin Towns Open & Junior Tennis Tournament is back in town. It will be another great turn out with over 200 players competing. I spoke with Darren Nash, the tournament organiser, and he is pleased with the numbers this year despite the pandemic-induced drop in registrations when compared to a few years back.
All the players are looking forward to jumping into the competition this weekend. There’s $5,700 in prize money up for grabs plus trophies for the juniors, so it will be a great show for spectators too.
Darren also took the opportunity to thank the tournament volunteers who make such a big contribution towards the success of the event. Like dedicated volunteers everywhere, he really couldn’t thank them enough.
I also talked to a mate of mine, Darren Mealing from the Gold Coast. He’s been coming to the Twin Towns Open since 2014 so I asked him what he thought was the main appeal of this tournament. He expressed that the competition is strong and it’s a well-organised event. Plus it’s a knockout draw, which means players are put in a draw and then winners progress to the next round as the losers drop out. It really helps build motivation in the players and excitement in the spectators.
Darren is using this weekend away to catch up with mates from Sydney, enjoying the tennis and of course trying our best bars and restaurants in Forster. Afterall we do have an awesome selection of places to enjoy great food and service, simply ask me for my recommendations!
We’ll be there to cheer him on and of course I’ve already booked the restaurants. :-)
